Web Browsers

This site is best viewed with modern, standards compliant browsers.

If you are experiencing difficulties with this website, you may be using an outdated browser. Consider trying one of the browsers below. (All of them are free downloads with the exception of Opera, which has a free version with advertising or a pay version without)

Standards Compliant Browser list: (no particular order)

  1. Internet Explorer versions: 5.5, 6 (6 being the most compliant version)
  2. Netscape 6.2, 7 or higher Available for a small variety of operating systems.
  3. Mozilla (Firefox) Open source browser which Netscape 6.x, 7.x is based on. Also available for many operating systems.
  4. Opera 6 or higher Also available for many operating systems.
  5. Konqueror Full featured Linux browser for the K desktop environment.
  6. Safari - Apple's own web browser for OSX and beyond. Based on Konqueror for Linux
  7. IBM Web Browser IBM's OS2/Warp browser based on Mozilla (see above)
What about Netscape 4.x?

Netscape 4 was released in June of 1997, over seven years ago and is NOT a standards compliant browser. Most of these sites no longer support visual designs for Nestcape 4.x or other non-standards compliant browsers, though the content should still be available to all browsers or internet devices (including screen readers, very old browsers, and text-only browsers). Users of Netscape 4.x (or other non-standards compliant browsers) should consider upgrading to one of the browsers listed above.

What web standards?

The ones created by the World Wide Web Consortium. The browsers listed above have made a commitment to design their products to follow the W3C's standards.

What's the big deal?

The big deal is that many newer technologies depend on these standards in order to operate. The standards allow people to design products to a standard, and code data that can be viewed by any standards compliant agent. This includes assistive technology for users with special needs, as well as a wide variety of other technologies. What this means for you is a better web experience that uses the latest technology to bring you better web pages faster.
