Loose foot trim?

Question: My Mainsail has a loose foot... any trim tips?

Answer: A good rule of thumb is to ease the foot of the sail when going upwind so that the middle of the foot is about 2.5% of the foot length away from the boom.

From this starting point in medium winds, you can ease it a bit more for light winds (an inch or so more ease on the outhaul), running and reaching, but gradually tighten it more and more as the wind increases, so that upwind in a stiff breeze, the foot is tight, and straight along the boom.
