Any Benefits to a Large Roach?

Question: My current sail has a standard roach and I'm considering a large roach... what are the benefits if any?

Answer: The larger roach will give you more sail area and therefore more power in light / medium conditions.

The larger roach is best supported by full length battens. Apart from helping the sail to maintain its designed cross section shape, these will give other benefits, such as longer sail life (no flogging while raising, lowering or reefing), and the ability to de-power the sail by letting the leech twisting off, without the flogging that would result with a sail with short battens.
